Job Description

Love Farms is a small-scale, diversified farm nestled on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. We are dedicated to sustainable farming practices across 10 acres of land, with active cultivation on about one acre. Our diverse offerings include a wide range of vegetables, fruits, flowers, and herbs, alongside the care of laying hens, Kune Kune pigs, and dairy goats. We are excited to announce the upcoming launch of our 10,000 sq. ft. farm-to-table restaurant and event space, set to open by early fall 2025. This venue will showcase our farm's bounty, offering everything from casual breakfast sandwiches to intimate five-course chef’s tasting experiences. Our primary market will be the restaurant, where guests can savor the flavors of our fresh, locally grown produce. In addition to dining, we aim to create an immersive experience through educational tours. These paid tours will provide guests with hands-on learning about vegetable and livestock farming, regenerative and organic methods, and the opportunity to interact with our young piglets, goat kids and chicks in the breeding program. Since acquiring the property in October 2020, we’ve honored its rich history as a vibrant family farm—once a hub for the Lohr family, known for raising pigs and keeping horses. After years of neglect, we are now in our fourth season of revitalizing the land, battling overgrowth and weed pressure as we establish permanent raised beds across our fields, gardens, and hoop houses. Simultaneously, we are renovating all farm structures, including the house, barn, wood shop, coops, and outdoor spaces, to reflect the refined beauty of a nearby $15M+ development project. Our goal is to create a welcoming environment that celebrates our agricultural heritage while embracing innovation and sustainability. Join us on this exciting journey as we cultivate community, connection, and a love for the land. On-Farm Housing Included in Compensation Position Overview: We are seeking a Farm Manager who has a deep passion for small-scale diversified food production and can help turn our abundant visions into reality. The ideal candidate will lead with heart, recognizing that designing and managing our farm is a collaborative process rooted in creativity, productivity, and love—for each other, the land, and God’s creation. Key Responsibilities: Operational Leadership: Coordinate with the culinary team to ensure planting and harvest schedules align with kitchen demand. Maintain a broad perspective of all farm operations, proactively addressing issues as they arise. Ensure workflow continuity by preparing the team and resources effectively. Promote a fun, respectful, and energized work environment for all team members. General Production Management: Develop and update a production plan in real-time, communicating major changes to the team. Keep the production board in the barn up to date with priorities and tasks. Oversee crop production, ensuring all compost and amendments are applied correctly and beds are prepared for planting. Manage seeding, irrigation, weeding, thinning, trellising, and pruning. Livestock Management: Ensure proper feeding schedules and access to fresh, clean water for all livestock. Maintain pens and shelters to ensure the health and safety of the animals. Set up, break down, and maintain electric fencing as needed for animal rotation and safety. Conduct regular health checks on livestock to monitor well-being and prevent issues. Manage breeding schedules and practices for Kune Kune pigs, ensuring adherence to best practices. Training and Team Management: Manage workflow based on task priority, weather, and best practices. Create and update daily chore checklists, training team members in all aspects of the farm. Provide constant feedback, encouragement, and direction to team members to foster growth and success. Harvest, Wash, and Transport: Collaborate with the culinary team on harvest timing and sizes. Monitor weather conditions and crew availability to meet harvest deadlines. Oversee the washing, storage, and delivery of crops to the restaurant, ensuring cleanliness and organization of all areas. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate seeding, transplanting, and harvest logs, as well as observation journals. Facilitate wrap-up meetings at the end of each day to collect and record necessary data. Human Resource Support: Keep the team calendar updated, managing chore rotations, time off, and community events. Ensure team members accurately clock in and out. Qualifications: At least 5 years of experience in small-scale, diversified farming, ideally with a focus on organic and regenerative practices. Advanced knowledge in crop and livestock production. Self-driven and motivated, with a strong desire to maximize production within growing and livestock areas. A passion for educating others about food production and reconnecting communities with the source of their food. A keen eye for property design and upkeep, ensuring all areas of the farm are beautiful and well-maintained. Basic skills in tractor operation, plumbing/irrigation, carpentry, and comfort with various tools. Strong managerial skills with the ability to motivate and direct a diverse team. Inspired by regenerative agriculture, permaculture, biodynamics, and agroecology. Commitment to excellence in cleanliness and organization across all farm areas. Reporting Structure: The Farm Manager will report directly to the General Manager and will play a crucial role in shaping our farming practices as we prepare for the restaurant's launch. Why Join Us? At Love Farms, you will be part of a dedicated team that values sustainability, community, and a deep connection to the land.
