Description:

To ensure an organized and smooth-running meat & cheese departments and provide a variety of and other accoutrements that appeal to an ever-expanding customer base. Meet and maintain department objectives for sales and margin. Support Food Service Manager’s goals for the overall department in team meetings and by performing other tasks as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities and Functions

OPERATIONS

  • Validate product costs and retail pricing is in line to achieve sales and margin goals set by Food Service Manager
  • Ensure product standards and par levels are being followed
  • Oversee product sampling
  • Ensure POS system and scales are accurate, and information is up-to-date for pricing products
  • Provide an accurate fresh inventory monthly
  • Maintain department equipment in working order; notify FSM of needed repairs
  • Successfully complete and maintain food safety certification
  • Address safety concerns immediately
  • Report to AFSM & FSM regularly; Attend team meetings

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Uphold and demonstrate our above & beyond customer service policy
  • Interact with customers, in-person and on the phone, in a friendly, efficient manner

PRODUCTION

  • Ensure a rotating, seasonal product mix that includes ample representation of all main cheese & meat categories
  • Ensure food prep and display areas are maintained in sanitary, orderly condition meeting health department standards
  • Ensure tracking of all product shrink through set systems

MERCHANDISING

  • Plan attractive displays with uniform signage and ensure displays are fully stocked,rotated to ensure freshness
  • Develop strategies to drive sales; order items weekly to support Fresh Deal & Co-op Deal sales flyer
  • Ensure all signage is accurate and up-to-date
  • Perform weekly department sanitation duties to ensure clean work space and equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations & food safety requirements

PURCHASING

  • Order product and supplies on time to ensure inventories are maintained at optimum levels
  • Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, and delivery and investigate new vendors
  • Receive orders, code invoices, and process credits in a timely fashion
  • Coordinate returns and credits from suppliers where applicable

  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, climb stairs or ladder.
  • Ability to reach above shoulder height occasionally.
  • Ability to talk and hear to communicate with customers.
  • Finger and hand dexterity with ability to grasp and hold items of different sizes.
  • Vision ability – close, distance, peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Ability to read register screen and product and shelf labels.

  • Frequent exposure to cold, hot, wet or humid conditions.
  • Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, hazardous materials ranging from natural to chemical (store products, cleaning products, scents from working in a public setting).
  • Exposure to and potential handling of fresh foods.
  • Frequently performs work standing on cement floors
  • May work occasionally in temperature extremes (walk-in freezer, outside warehouse, hot kitchen, etc.).
  • Noise level in the store is usually moderate to loud.
