Job Description

Assists in examination and treatment of patients under direction of primary care provider and/or registered nurse. Advocates for patients and assists in the furtherance of their care as directed within the California MA Scope of Practice. Entry level. Essential duties include delivering compassionate assistance to patients, obtaining and recording patient medical histories, vitals, test results, and other information while maintaining confidentiality, preparing patients for visits and provider examinations, performing preliminary screenings and other MA rooming and charting duties, following Epic EMR workflows, conducting MA procedures such as ECG, respiratory testing, vision and hearing tests, administering medications and immunizations per policy, assisting with minor procedures, obtaining specimens and performing point-of-care testing, maintaining exam rooms, following medical asepsis and sterilization protocols, scheduling appointments, adhering to MA Scope of Practice in California, floating to other clinics as needed, and supporting medication delivery to patients’ homes. Qualifications include knowledge of MA Scope of Practice in California, injection routes, ability to chart patient information accurately, promote effective communication, work as a team member, handle difficult situations calmly, and basic computer skills. Education requires High School diploma or GED and completion of accredited Medical Assistant training or equivalent experience. Certifications include injection certificate (required by 6 months), CPR certification, and optionally Medical Assistant Certification and venipuncture/dermal puncture certification. Physical requirements include vision abilities, communication, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, and use of hands and fingers for medical equipment operation. May require valid driver's license and reliable transportation for delivery. The position reports to the Back Office Manager or Registered Nurse – Clinic Manager and is part of the Clinical Services team.
