About the Role: The PRN Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting healthcare providers and ensuring the smooth operation of clinical services. These hours are not normally scheduled and are as needed. This position involves performing a variety of clinical and administrative tasks to facilitate patient care, including taking vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting with medical procedures. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for handling medical instruments, drawing blood through phlebotomy, and processing specimens accurately to support diagnostic testing. Additionally, the role requires maintaining a sterile environment by following proper sterilization protocols and managing patient communications effectively. Ultimately, this position contributes to delivering high-quality, compassionate care within a social assistance setting, enhancing patient outcomes and clinic efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program or other relevant/equivalent training
  • Proven experience in clinical medical assisting, including taking vital signs and specimen processing.
  • Strong knowledge of medical instruments and sterilization techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage patient interactions professionally.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a social assistance or community health center environment.
  • Basic life support (BLS) or CPR.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
  • Additional certification such as Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
  • Bilingual abilities to assist a diverse patient population.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients for examination by taking and recording vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.
  • Assist healthcare providers during patient examinations and minor procedures.
  • Perform phlebotomy duties including drawing blood and properly labeling and processing specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Maintain and sterilize medical instruments and examination rooms to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Manage patient communications by answering phones, scheduling appointments, and providing clear instructions regarding treatments and follow-up care.
