Job Description

Senior Computer Operator

This position resides on the Computer Operations team in the Bureau of Operations Services within the Chief Information Office.

Duties:

  • Operate print and post print processing equipment that produces output from various jobs submitted throughout the course of the day.
  • Load, align, and configure print output (upwards of 50 lbs.) on printers, pre, and post print processing equipment, and use pallet jack to move inventory throughout the facility.
  • Comply with post print processing instructions.
  • Record, label, batch, and distribute printed output.
  • Communicate with customers regarding the status of their print requests.
  • Conduct quality control on printed checks, transport the approved checks to the mail center, and assist mail center staff with sorting and distribution.
  • Adhere to security procedures and requirements regarding the storage, transportation, utilization, disposition, and accountability of secure stock.
  • Communicate to supervisors when supply levels require replenishing.
  • Perform regular cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues on the equipment and open support tickets when vendor assistance is required for resolution.
  • Monitor job console and hardware diagnostic displays to ensure systems are operating efficiently and customer on-line transactions, batch programs and data transfers are properly executing.
  • Initiate and monitor production jobs and communicate statuses to appropriate teams for resolution.
  • Conduct physical checks of the facility to ensure the building is safe and secure.
  • Serve as a help desk technician.

For appointment to the Senior Computer Operator position you must have:

  • A high school or high school equivalency diploma and one year of full-time experience in the operation of large scale/commercial printing equipment, a mainframe or medium to large server, multi-variable print production, or information technology related activities.

Competitive Qualifications:

You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title, eligible under the 55 b/c program, or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 56.2, 70.1 and or 70.4 of the Civil Service Law.

Transfer:

For 52.6, 70.1, or 70.4 transfer to a Senior Computer Operator, salary grade (SG)-14, you must have one year of permanent competitive, or 55-b/55-c service in an approved title for transfer allocated to an SG-12 or above.

Appointments via transfer must not result in second, consecutive transfer with an advancement of more than two S-grades or one M-grade.
